A Junker's Re-Purposed Yardstick Advent Calendar

November 09, 2013
Hoping to think of a great project to make with yardsticks, I bought three last month at an antique shop.  They were $3 each.

Last year I made this Christmas tree out of a yardstick, jute and a metal snowflake.

The first step in my new project was to cut the yardstick off at 25 1/2".

Next I hot glued twenty-four 1/2" round craft magnets to the yardstick.

I glued the magnets at half inch intervals.

I cut a Baby Jesus out of a catalog, and decoupaged Him onto the end of the 25 1/2" yardstick.  I thought I might like the yardstick with a little more of an even finish, so I brushed on one coat of matte polyurethane.

I purchased four packages of rusty tin 1" stars.

The rusty stars stick to the magnets.

My junker re-purposed yardstick Advent calendar is almost complete.

I made small hole in the one inch end of the yardstick, and tied a piece of string in the hole for hanging.
