A New Kitchen Wall Display

February 28, 2014
My new kitchen wall vignette begins with a board... This old piece of tongue and groove barn wood, specifically.  I got it free from my sign painter friend Jodi, of  Mann Made Signs .  Jodi paints great signs on barnwood.

"Times They Are a Changin" in my Kitchen

February 25, 2014
I have lived in this house for over 20 years, and I can hardly remember a time that I didn't have this shadow box on my kitchen wall. This is it today.  Not redecorated since I removed my Valentine's Day items. The pine shadow box was not painted when I purchased it.  It was stained in a dark stain with no varnish or polyurethane.  It was perfect for my cutesy country decor in the 1990's.

A Re-Purposed Drawer Shelf

February 23, 2014
My project started with this drawer picked up for $5.

Old Stuff That Is New To Me

February 23, 2014
I am constantly on the lookout for old stuff.  Here are my newest "old" finds. This is the knob on a great old walking stick.

A Framed Flour Sack

February 19, 2014
This morning I purchased this cloth Stockton Brand Unbleached Flour Sack at a local antique shop.  I paid $5 for it.  I don't think it's super old or anything because it has a zip code and a UPC, but it's fun kitchen decor.

When I Don't Plant in Junk, I Pick Terra Cotta Pots

February 18, 2014
I think you know that I love to plant flowers in junk! But when I don't plant in junk, I plant in terra cotta pots.  Here I planted a verbena in a watering can, and New Guinea impatiens in a terra cotta pot with barnacles and hen and chicks along side in the same pot. I planted small terra cotta pots with annuals for the tables at my youngest daughter's graduation in 2012.  The pots were placed on green indoor/outdoor carpet cut in the shapes of the greens at our local golf course.  My daughter was a high school golfer, and is a college golfer.  In this terra cotta pot are yellow violas with purple angelonia. I bring my houseplants outside during the summer.  This peace lily is in a terra cotta pot and is positioned among my vintage garden hand tools in a wooden raisin crate. I have had this stepladder in my front border for many years.  I always anchor the terra cotta pots on the ladder rungs with large spikes in the pot holes. Add caption Pots on

A Faux Grain Sack Painted Frame

February 18, 2014
Grain sacks and faux grain sack stripes are very popular on Pinterest and in blogland.   I decided to give painted stripes a try. Here,  Susan at Homeroad painted this laminate top table and gave it fun grain sack stripes.  She now uses it as a folding table in her laundry room!

Button Easter Eggs

February 16, 2014
I have a large stash of old buttons, mostly from my mother. A couple of years ago, I was inspired by photos on Pinterest to make some button Easter eggs.  (Parts of this post first appeared appeared March 11, 2012). I initially planned to try a framed button egg.

My First Re-Purposed Kitchen Ware Tiered Stand

February 15, 2014
There have been many things I wanted to try since I became a blogger. I recently tried Annie Sloane Chalk Paint for the very first time.  I made my first sign with the graphite letter tracing technique.  I printed a shamrock on a dictionary page with the word shamrock.  I made a book page Christmas tree.  I got a Silhouette Portrait for Christmas.  (I haven't tried it yet).  You get the idea.  After you see great ideas on other blogs or Pinterest, you just want to try it yourself. I bet I could make a great tiered stand like Susan at Homeroad.   This one was made with wooden bowls. Or like the  "Queen of the Tiered Stand" , Angie at Knick of Time Interiors.  This one is fabulous with vintage enamelware.  Angie and Susan both sell tiered stands in their Etsy shops. Well not so fast!!!!!!  It wasn't quite as easy as I thought.   Here is a vintage Jello mold and a pie pan, and a wooden rolling pin.  I planned to have the tiers 6" apart, and planned t

Clipboard Copy Cat

February 11, 2014
If you follow my blog, you know that I have been clipboard crazy lately. I made a  Clipboard Gallery Wall.

Toilet Tank Cover Makeover

February 08, 2014
I think this area could use a makeover!  The reproduction white enamelware tub at least kept junk organized, but is definitely not very attractive.

Sausage Tortellini Soup

February 07, 2014
I have made a sausage tortellini soup recipe twice now, based on a recipe I saw on Pinterest.   Here's the recipe I found on Pinterest from  Two Peas and Their Pod  blog.  It looks so delicious.

A President's Day Vintage Vignette

February 06, 2014
I bet you don't decorate for President's Day.  I have a small collection of presidential memorabilia that I have just put out on display in my living room in honor of President's Day. I started a President's Day vignette with a wooden crate turned upside down on my coffee table. Next I added a pair of Abraham Lincoln gold plaster bookends.  I just purchased these yesterday thrifting for $4. Next I added four old books "Kennedy", "The Boys of '76", "Boyhood Adventures of Our Presidents" and "The Life and Selected Writings of Jefferson". Then I propped a vintage framed Teddy "Roosevelt Creed" against the books. Next a "Carter/Mondale" campaign button, Eisenhower silver dollars, And a "Roosevelt" campaign button (that was my dad's, all on a scrabble tile wooden holder). Lastly, I added a vintage Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building vintage souve
